About Red: from a Teacher, Preacher, Cowboy, D.J., and Rodeo Announcer [ Kelly Hopfer K_H Ranch -

I first found out about Red in my young growing up days in Oklahoma City during the National Finals Rodeo. Red became one of my heros and a lifelong friend by the time I was 13.
I cut my teeth on Reds music and rarely missed his Oklahoma appearances from the National Finals to the local Honky-Tonks. I could sing all his songs by heart and those of his friends like Chris Ledeoux and Moe Bandy. By the time I was in 6th grade all my friends loved Cowboy music too. We owned the records, the 8 tracks and Cassettes long before a CD was popular.
In the 90's I was lucky enough to pull a stint in radio at KOKC in Guthrie. I hit up Red for certain songs I had worn out from my personal collection, putting him right back on air and keeping him and my other heroes alive and well. I along with Billy Parker of KVOO were the first of two Oklahoma stations to say yes to Cowboy Corner.
I hung up my radio spurs in 1996 but keep Red and our heroes alive and well through Rodeo Announcing. Whether its a 'lil' old cowboy or Cowboy-girl commenting on Red or my parents that always thank me for doing things the cowboy way that Red taught me and playing that great old country music.
I have to thank Red for not only being one my Cowboy Hero's but for being a Rock-Solid Christian Cowboy as well. It makes me feel good inside out when I share some of his stories in Cowboy Church Services or anytime I get to preach becaause they are real and they touch the hearts of our people.
Red, you are one fine American, a Genuine Cowboy, and a man who deserves way more awards than he will ever receive. There just two more things I'll share about him. His work will stand the test of time long after he is gone. I can double garuntee you this friends one day we will ride the ranges of Heaven "where the grass is always belly deep and stirrup high" with all Our Cowboy Friends.
